Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard – Three Grands Crus and Twelve Premiers Crus in Chassagne-Montrachet, Côte de Beaune

Located at the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet, one of the most prestigious villages of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard ranks among the most respected producers in the Burgundian vineyard. For several centuries, the family has worked the vines with dedication and rigour. Founded in 1985 by Richard Fontaine and Laurence Gagnard, the estate is the fruit of the union of two great winemaking families from the region. Today managed by the third generation, embodied by Céline who joined the estate in 2007, followed by her husband Frédéric in 2018, the domaine carries on with passion and rigour a philosophy resolutely focused on the authentic expression of each plot and respect for family values.

With 12 hectares of vines covering three Grands Crus and twelve different Premiers Crus, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard has established itself as one of the absolute benchmarks of Chassagne-Montrachet. Among its Grands Crus, the estate produces Montrachet Grand Cru, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, the latter being one of the finest sources of this tiny Grand Cru of the Côte de Beaune. In white Premiers Crus from Chassagne-Montrachet, the range unfolds a remarkable collection: La Romanée, Les Caillerets, Morgeot Blanc, Les Vergers, Les Chenevottes, La Maltroie, Les Embrazées, Boudriotte Blanc, Clos Saint-Jean and the monopole Clos des Murées. In red wines, the estate offers Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge, Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes and Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens, complemented by a Bourgogne Blanc, a Bourgogne Rouge and a Bourgogne Passetoutgrain.

The viticulture is built on rigorous work throughout the year: ploughing, regular soil analyses and sustainable farming practices in order to give the vines the best possible qualitative potential at harvest. Winemaking remains classic and traditional, with fermentations using indigenous yeasts and ageing in carefully selected French oak barrels, adjusted according to the hierarchy of appellations to bring out the typicity of each terroir to its fullest. The style of Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard's wines is defined by its intensity, depth and complexity: Chassagne wines of classical balance and early accessibility, yet always underpinned by a beautiful expression of terroir and the structure needed to age with grace.
