Domaine Mosnier
Domaine Mosnier – The Authenticity and Minerality of Chablis Wines since 1893 in Beines
Located in the commune of Beines, on the doorstep of Chablis, at the northernmost tip of Burgundy, Domaine Mosnier has embodied the tradition and authenticity of great Chablis white wines for over 130 years. Since 1893, driven by the same will and the same conviction to always do things well, several generations of family winemakers have followed one another, applying themselves with strength and determination to working the vines and producing wines in the pure tradition and authenticity of Burgundy and Chablis.
Sylvain Mosnier, grandson of winemakers, took over his grandfather's vines in 1978 and gradually expanded the estate around Beines. His daughter Stéphanie, after leaving her career as an engineer, returned to the estate in 2005, has been making the wines since 2007 and has managed the domaine since 2013.
The new generation, embodied by Stéphanie, blends tradition and modernity within the production, developing listings to be offered in prestigious establishments and the dining tables of renowned Palace hotels.
The estate today farms nearly 19 hectares of vines spread across various terroirs: 4 hectares of Petit Chablis, 13.30 hectares of Chablis and 1.60 hectares of Premiers Crus. The Domaine Mosnier range covers all the appellations of Chablis: Petit Chablis, lively and approachable, from Portlandian soils; Chablis, refined and floral; Chablis Vieilles Vignes, from vines over 50 years old, more concentrated and more mineral; Chablis 1er Cru Beauroy, floral and inviting, with limestone soils that lend freshness and minerality; and Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet, fine, elegant and mineral, with a characteristic spiced finish. The estate also produces a Crémant de Bourgogne, as well as original cuvées vinified in amphora, showcasing the minerality and unique character of the Chablis terroir.
The estate is nestled at the heart of the Chablis vineyard, with typical terroirs and Climats, allowing it to produce unique and incomparable dry white wines. This characteristic minerality comes from Chardonnay drawing its strength and delicate freshness from the Kimmeridgian soil, formed 70 million years ago when the sea retreated, leaving alternating layers of limestone and clay enriched with fossilised marine organisms. Vinification takes place in enamel and stainless steel vats in order to preserve as much as possible the minerality and purity of the fruit — the estate's stylistic signature.
The estate holds the Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE 3) certification, reflecting a sustainable approach to viticulture with minimal use of phytosanitary products, achieved through soil cultivation and the grassing-over of plots.
